Payments & Medicare Rebates
-
Fees for individual therapy sessions depend on the practitioner you see.
The prices for each practitioner can be found within each profile on the ‘Find a Therapist’ page.
If wanting to claim a portion of the session cost through Medicare, please confirm with the receptionist that the clinician you are going to work with is Medicare-registered. Not all mental health practitioners are covered by Medicare.
-
For face-to-face sessions, payment is required at the end of the appointment and can be paid by credit card or EFTPOS. We can process your Medicare or Private health insurance claims at the time of the payment.
For online, Telehealth or video session payment you will receive a phone call from Voxus reception to take payment over the phone and you will be immediately emailed a receipt. Alternatively, you can pay via the Invoice that is sent out after the appointment.
Please note that future sessions will not proceed if there is an outstanding payment due. -
Medicare's Better Access to Mental Health initiative is a government program that offers a partial rebate on psychology sessions for individuals with mental health symptoms.
-
To be able to receive psychological treatment that is subsidised by Medicare, you will need a referral letter and Mental Health Care Plan from a GP, psychiatrist, or pediatrician. Once you have these documents, you can pass them on to a psychologist to get started with your therapy sessions.
Having the referral and Mental Health Care Plan entitles you to a rebate from Medicare for part of each session fee. You can claim up to 10 subsidised sessions per calendar year (January to December). Please note that this rebate applies only to individual psychology sessions, and not for couples therapy or psychometric assessments, or some other kinds of services. If you're not sure whether your sessions qualify for a rebate, please feel free to ask us, and we will be happy to advise you.
After your sixth session, you will need to see your GP for a review of your progress and to receive an additional referral letter to continue receiving the rebate on your next four sessions. We will discuss this process with you during your first session, as well as remind you when you reach session six.
If you have any questions about claiming Medicare rebates, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Our administration team is knowledgeable about the workings of the scheme and will be happy to assist you with the details. For further information, you can also visit the Australian Psychological Society and Department of Health websites.

We advise contacting your insurance provider before contacting Voxus to understand what is available to you and the qualifications your clinician will need for you to be covered through your plan.
